BUY HELMET CAMERA

This one minute montage is my first Video taken with Nikon D7000 and posted on flickr. All still images and video clips were taken with this camera and the Nikkor 15-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens.

I was disappointed with the AF function of the Nikon D7000 which is still hunting for focus even when you believe that your have locked the focus on your target. This is proof that the DSLRs are still not on par technologically with real video cameras. This is mainly due to the challenge that these DSLR have with their larger size sensors which create very shallow depth of field and makes the focus critical. By contrast a small sensor video camera will have everything sharp almost without having to focus precisely.
I read that most large sensors cameras produced in 2011 have this issue (including the almost video camera SONY NEX VG10).
I will produce videos with my D7000 using my manual focus Zeiss or Leica lenses on non or slow moving subjects (landscapes or people in a far distance) to use the benefits of this camera (resolution, cinema like depth of field) without its weaknesses. Another weakness very obvious too: No image stabilization! A tripod is very useful to avoid dizziness watching the video. :)

It was fun however to be able to snapshot pictures and record HD video while driving the Segway with one hand.

The guy behind had a Nikon (and very sharp elbows!) I don't know about the video camera guy but he was very popular with the young ladies......

This was taken on the boat we went on to see the Pilot Whales, Chico was entertainment for the children, because rocking along at a 45 degree angle watching your parents throw up wasn't entertainment enough apparently, although when my lens cap fell overboard and I said a naughty word even those kids who didn't have english as a first language laughed !
